YEIS has teamed up with a range of quality high street stores and internet businesses.

If you click on the links below and purchase an item, YEIS will earn a small percentage of the value of the transaction (normally up to 5% of the value).

The best this is that it does not cost you a penny - the cost of the transaction remains the same, you pay the same and we just get a small commission.

DONATE: Keep YEIS running

YEIS is an educational experiment, and as such the decisions that the staff and students make can sometimes lead to a "non desirable" result -- ie sometimes we loose money!!

The students take part to widen their horizons and our staff contribute time and experience to create a richer learning environment.

Sometimes we would like, in the sense of "Dragons Den" to have a punt, take a flyer or just suck it and see, but the constraints of a school budget (read no budget), mean that nearly all of our ideas stay as just "ideas".

If you would like to contribute to the running and administration fees of YEIS please consider donating, however small.

What is YEIS?

YEIS is the Young Enterprise In Science project.

YEIS was created as a result of the frustration of teaching secondary science in isolation, often divorced from the realities of how science is employed as a tool in the "real" world. The introduction in 2006 of the "How Science Works" strand of the current GCSE specification has, to some degree helped, but it is a small concesion towards understanding the role and responsibilities of scientists as they are employed by businesses and in industry.

YEIS aims to bring relavence of commercial applications to the study of science. YEIS is an ongoing project, designed to compliment the rigour of GCSE/A-level science and the entrepreneurial skills found in Business Studies courses.

YEIS is run as a business by the staff and students of Bettws High School, Newport, SWales.

The students:

* Research new and innovative products
* Devise market strategies and routes to market
* Investigate new uses for existing commercial products
* Create and revise application notes and briefings
* Test and report on all products suggested

The staff:

* Provide science and business guidance
* Create and maintain this web presence
* Provide access and advice on the nature of ecommerce
* Guide and provide overall managerial input

The board:

YEIS is nomally run through the creation of a board of directors, comprising students. Staff members take the role of non-executive directors, responsible for advising and providing business networking support.
